Review | This is the best cot tent on the market for couples. It has an easy-to-set-up tent with internal pockets for storage. | Can be challenging to set up. It has a bar between the sleepers. Smaller than expected, and isn't as good value as the Kamp-Rite. | Appears to be a low-quality copy of the Tangkula double cot tent. Lots of bad reviews. This is another one. |
Our Tent Cot Reviews
Kamp-Rite Compact Double Tent Cot (CTC Double)
Pros
- Two doors on each side to enter and exit.
- Freestanding – can move from spot to spot easily.
Cons
- Has a center bar along the cot middle.
- Bulky and heavy
- Can be cold on the base of the cot
The Kamp-Rite Compact Tent Cot (CTC) Double is a heavy-duty cot and can take a combined weight of 550lbs or 227kgs making it perfect for two people.
This tent has fantastic ventilation due to the two doors on each side but you’ll need to manage condensation issues when the rainfly is attached by opening up windows and vents.
The cot and tent will separate and can be used apart if a spare bed is needed or the kids want to camp in the backyard. It’s a good value, very versatile three-in-one product.
These tents go up quickly and easily and are easily collapsible to pack up but once you are inside, your weight can pull doors and sides out of whack, making zippers harder to close. Look at adjusting the velcro after you get in.
The no-see-um mesh is great for keeping the bugs out while letting light in so you can see during the day. At night, you can use the internal hook to hang a fan and light.
Ventilation is needed in pretty much any cot tent due to the combination of small size and body heat causing condensation. Fans can help prevent condensation by moving air around.
You’ll need a mattress or barrier to keep the cold from seeping in underneath the thin cot material though. Kamp-Rite has self-inflating mattresses that fit perfectly in these tents.
Overall, this is a decent double-sized tent cot with a price tag that reflects the quality.
Tangkula 2 Person Tent Cot With Air Mattress
Pros
- Quirky and fun
- Can separate the cot and tent.
- Lots of bonus items included.
Cons
- Can be hard to put up.
- Some low-quality parts.
- Not as big as it looks online.
This is a unique-looking tent that will have people stopping to talk. The Tangkula 2 person cot tent is attention-grabbing and very futuristic looking!
This cot tent has a rainfly giving you extra cover in the rain. The sleeping bags that are included are a bit lightweight, so you might need a better one on colder nights.
People over six feet complain about the lack of room in this Tangkula cot tent. This tent isn’t really for bigger people. It is very compact. You wont get you, your partner and your camping gear inside this one. Check the measurements before purchasing it online.
The foot pump is pretty low quality and will not last, and the sleeping bags, etc aren’t the highest quality either. It’s a good way to try camping for a night or two but it’s not going to become a family heirloom.
The instructions are also hard to figure out with pretty rough translations into English, although it’s fairly intuitive if you know what it should look like in the end.
Overall, It’s a good budget package to get into camping with, but you’ll be looking to upgrade fairly quickly.
GYMAX 1/2 Person Tent Cot With Air Mattress & Sleeping Bag
Pros
- Cot is nice and sturdy
Cons
- Not as waterproof as advertised
- Only suitable for a single smaller person.
- The build is low quality.
- Has big condensation issues.
The Gymax 1-2 person tent cot looks REMARKABLY like the Tangkula cot tents. I’m not sure if it’s rebranded or a cheaper quality copy.
Many people complain that it’s far smaller than you’d expect for a two-person cot tent. It doesn’t fit two people in it as advertised. It’s also not waterproof at all.
The zippers don’t seem to want to close once you are inside, because they are under too much pressure from the weight. The setup instructions are also unclear. The most significant issues are condensation and zip quality.
However, the cot appears to be robust and well built, and the air mattress appears to stay up all night too.
Overall, this tent appears to be a cheap copy of better tents, and at this price point, there are far better cot tents to purchase.
Our Rating Criteria for Evaluating Double Tent Cots
Our favorite tent cot with space for two
If space is what you are after, the KAMP-RITE COMPACT TENT COT (CTC) DOUBLE has the most usable interior space of any teepee on this list.
This cot tent has a door for each occupant and the domed top makes it easy to sit up. There is a bar separating sleepers, so snugglers might not like it as much as sleeping in a tent on the ground.
Fast and Easy Setup
We love tent cots that have clear, intuitive instructions. You need a tent cot that is quick to assemble, has high-quality parts with easy-to-attach clips, and you don’t have to grapple with.
The KAMP-RITE COMPACT TENT COT (CTC) DOUBLE is the most straightforward setup that involves simply expanding it. First-timers can expect to have it up including the rainfly in under 15 minutes. Even in the dark!
Comfortable Night’s Sleep
This section looks for ventilation for airflow at night, length for taller campers, no-see-um mesh on windows and doors, lots of storage pockets, a place to hang a lantern or fan, and a mattress that is comfortable.
Our pick for the most comfortable night’s sleep is the KAMP-RITE COMPACT TENT COT (CTC) DOUBLE and it fulfills most of these criteria admirably!
Durability – how long will the cot tent last?
We value tent cots that use good quality parts, have seam seals, have a waterproof fly, smooth folding parts and extras, like a good quality carry bag. Fantastic reports from users of the tent cot go down well too!
The KAMP-RITE COMPACT TENT COT (CTC) DOUBLE is durable. We expect these tents to last at least half a decade if not more and give them our green light for quality.
Value for money for those with tight budgets
Accessing the great outdoors shouldn’t only be for those with lots of money. We want anyone to be able to get a great tent cot and go camping without going bankrupt.
The KAMP-RITE COMPACT TENT COT (CTC) DOUBLE isn’t the cheapest cot tent around but will certainly last more than a couple of trips! It’s robust, roomy, will take real-sized people, and is the perfect beginner’s budget tent.
Which of these heavy-duty cot tents can handle the most weight?
If you need a robust cot tent for longer or larger people or maybe more room for supplies for a field trip, you can’t look past the Kamp-Rite Compact Tent Cot (CTC) Double. It can take a combined weight of 500lbs, making it great for those who are a bit fluffier or carry more supplies than others!

Top Waterproof Tent Cot for a Rainy Day
KAMP-RITE COMPACT TENT COT (CTC) DOUBLE has rainfly with a decent waterproof rating and is ok for those expecting bad weather.
Tent Model | Rainfly | Material |
Kamp-Rite Compact Tent Cot (CTC) Double | Yes | 190T Nylon |
Tangkula 2-Person Camping Tent Cot | No | Polyester |
Gymax Camping 1/2 Person Tent Cot | Yes/No | Polyester |
Most Portable Cot Tent
The Gymax Camping 1/2 Person Tent Cot is only 32lbs or 14kgs, making it the lightest tent on this list. It is smaller if storage space is a problem. It’s easy enough to carry short distances or for those heading a bit further from the car to camp.
Tent Model | Weight (lbs) | Weight (kgs) |
Kamp-Rite Compact Tent Cot (CTC) Double | 42 lbs | 19 kgs |
Tangkula 2-Person Camping Tent Cot | 50.5 lbs | 22.9 kgs |
Gymax Camping 1/2 Person Tent Cot | 32 lbs | 14.5kg |
As light as this cot tent is, NO cot tent is suitable for backpacking or hiking due to the weight and bulk. The setup mechanism comes at a big size and weight disadvantage.
Summary of our in-tents performance review
The KAMP-RITE COMPACT TENT COT (CTC) DOUBLE is also perfect for older and larger campers who don’t want to sleep on the ground anymore and people with flexibility issues who wish to get out of a camp bed with a bit of dignity. The elevation of the bed really works for these people.
And if that makes getting out into the great outdoors more accessible to more people, we think it’s a good thing!
Happy camping 😊
