Review | Although this cot has a bar in the middle, each side should be wide enough. However, if you prefer to snuggle, you may need an air mattress or sleeping pad. | If you don't mind sleeping somewhat separately, this bunk bed can hold up to 500 pounds per person and is more than large enough to sleep comfortably. | This bunk bed can be converted into a bench, or you can separate it into two cots. So, we appreciate the versatility and reliability. | Although this cot is more portable and lightweight than others, it can feel a bit cramped when both of you are sleeping. | We like the addition of an air mattress with this cot, but it's not as durable or as comfortable as others we've seen. However, this model is more affordable. |
Best Camping Cots for Couples
Looking for a camp bed for yourself is one thing. However, buying one for you and your partner is something else. When comparing the best camping cots for couples, you must consider how comfortable it is when both of you lie down. In most cases, there’s a center bar, meaning you can’t snuggle with each other. However, when there’s no bar, you have to ensure the cot won’t sag too much, giving you back pain and soreness in the morning.
These camping beds work well if you’re using a sleeping bag or just a pad and a blanket. Also, we’re focusing primarily on how well it can hold two people and whether it’s comfortable for sleeping. Depending on how you plan to use your cot, you may have different priorities in mind.
Pros
- Extra compact when folded up
- Super easy to assemble, even solo
- Durable materials will last for multiple seasons
- More affordable than other cots of this quality
- Larger dimensions than other cots for better sleeping
- Holds up to 500 pounds max
Cons
- Not ideal for heavier couples
- Center bar prevents users from snuggling or spooning
Typically, when looking for a camping bed for you and your partner, you want to be able to sleep next to each other. For that reason, we like the Kamp-Rite Double Cot the most. It’s highly durable, easy to set up, compact and easy to carry, and relatively affordable. It’s hard to find anything wrong with this cot, but there is one notable downside. This cot has a center bar, so it can be uncomfortable to spoon with your significant other.
That said, there’s an easy workaround. You can either use a sleeping pad or an air mattress to alleviate the pressure caused by the bar, allowing you to use the cot however you like. Also, because this model is so large and can hold a lot of weight, you can move around pretty freely while sleeping. Although it’s not quite as big as a queen-sized bed, it’s pretty close.
Pros
- Holds up to 500 pounds per cot (1000 pounds total)
- Durable steel frame won’t bend or break under pressure
- Can separate the cots if necessary
- Stable structure won’t sway when someone moves on the top bunk
- Can convert into a bench seat
- The material doesn’t sag over time
Cons
- Not ideal for couples that like to sleep side-by-side
- More expensive than other models
There are two primary options when choosing the best camping cot for couples. First, you can select a double-wide option like the Kamp-Rite above. Second, you can opt for a bunk bed like this one from Disc O Bed. You’ll notice that this model and the Cam O Bunk below have many of the same features. However, this cot edged out the Cam O Bed because it’s a bit easier to set up and is built more ruggedly. One of the primary features we like is that the cot material is sturdy enough, so you don’t sink down too much while sleeping. All too often, you can feel like you’re sleeping in a trough, making it hard to fall asleep or move around at night.
We’re also impressed by the weight rating of Disc O Bed’s bunk bed cots. At 500 pounds each, they’re suitable for couples of all shapes and sizes. The length and width are also pretty roomy, so even if you’re on the bigger side of the scale, you should still feel pretty comfortable all night long. The side pockets are also hugely convenient since you can keep your phone or other items handy while you sleep. Finally, the frame of this setup is really sturdy, so even if the person in the top bunk shifts at night, it won’t send the whole thing toppling over.
Pros
- Durable powder-coated steel frame
- Holds up to 1000 pounds
- Affordable price point for the quality
- Converts into a bench or two individual cots
- Wider cots for better sleeping comfort
Cons
- Assembly is not as easy as other bunk bed cots
- Kind of bulky and heavy when packed up
This model is pretty similar to the XXL Bunk above, but it can be tricky to put together and take apart. One feature we didn’t mention with the cot above is that it’s highly versatile. You can separate the cots, so you’re both sleeping on the ground (and next to each other). Additionally, you can set up the cots to be a bench seat if necessary. That said, cots don’t make the most comfortable seats, so we recommend bringing cushions or pads if you plan to use them this way.
One significant advantage the Cam O Bunk has over the XXL is that it’s much more affordable. So, if you’re on a tighter budget and don’t mind the complicated setup, this model may be a better option.
Pros
- Affordable price
- Super fast setup and tear down
- Much lighter than other double cots
- Carry bag for easier transportation
Cons
- Not as durable as other cots
- Smaller sleeping area won’t be as comfortable for couples
If you’re looking for an affordable and lightweight double cot, this model from Outsunny is an excellent choice. We didn’t rank it higher because it’s not as durable as the Kamp Rite model, nor is it as large. Depending on you and your partner’s size, you may feel pretty cramped in this cot. Also, since there’s a center bar, you might not be able to sleep without a pad or air mattress on top of it.
Overall, we like this cot because it’s easy to use and lighter to carry. If you and your significant other are relatively small, you should feel comfortable on it, and it won’t sag or buckle under your weight.
Best Queen Size Camping Cot
As a rule, bigger is better when looking for a camping bed. Unless you’re backpacking, having more surface area ensures that you and your partner can be comfortable all night long. We found one queen-sized camping cot that is pretty durable and comes with its own air mattress for added support.
Pros
- Air mattress included
- Lightweight at just 22 pounds
- Mattress won’t slide off the cot as you sleep
- Most affordable double cot model
Cons
- Not as durable as other cots
- Cannot remove the air mattress cover when you don’t need the bed
- The air mattress itself is not very high quality
Coleman is virtually synonymous with affordable camping gear. However, the brand is most well-known for making high-quality supplies and tents, not necessarily cots. This queen-sized cot is spacious enough for two people, and we really like that it comes with an air mattress. This model is also the most affordable of the bunch, making it ideal for those on a tighter budget.
The primary downside is that this cot isn’t built as tough as others we’ve seen. Also, if you don’t want to use the air mattress provided, it’s kind of hard to find a replacement. Unfortunately, the mattress itself is not as sturdy as the cot, meaning it can puncture and deflate relatively easily. Overall, if you’re looking for a large camping cot that’s both lightweight and highly affordable, we’d recommend this model.
Buying a camping cot can make your trip much more accommodating and comfortable. Most people don’t like sleeping on the ground, which is why car camping is much more popular these days. However, using cots like these can help you sleep better and wake up rested, not sore. Overall, the Kamp Rite Kwick Cot will provide the best reliability of the bunch. But, if you prefer bunk beds (or individual cots), the Disc O Bed XXL is our top pick.
