This is a small tree-shaded Uvalde County Park that offers tent camping, swimming, and fishing on the sparkling spring-fed Nueces River — a fantastic watercourse on the Hill Country’s western edge. This location makes some top ten lists of swimming holes because the water is cold and clear. There is a dam on the river at the adjacent crossing. This creates a big pool and a nice little downstream play area.
The park is three miles south of Camp Wood on State Highway 55, and it also has RV parking. This is a charming drive-up campground, but keep in mind that the campsites are small and close together, so you may want to reserve a few extras just to be safe. For information on paddle trips in this area, contact Clear Creek Outfitters because stream gauges rarely provide useful information about water flows. Also, call ahead of time to check on availability because this small park can fill up quickly.
