🏆 Best Overall

Elk Mountain Tents Large Canvas Wall Tent with Stove Jack

Perfect for hunters, glampers, and families, this wall tent is made from a modern poly-cotton canvas giving superior waterproofing.

Pros

  • Excellent waterproofing and UV resistance
  • Super durable canvas blend
  • Comes with a stove jack
  • Windows to help prevent condensation

Cons

Available in 13x13ft, 13x16ft, 13x20ft.

Significantly tougher than traditional canvas, the Elk Mountain Canvas Wall tent is a unique polyester canvas tent made with 11oz canvas that has a breaking strength of 449 lbs and a tear strength of 67lbs making it twice as tough as the Sunforger canvas materials often used by other manufacturers and helping it last longer.

Each corner is also reinforced with double layers for extra strength and durability, the seams are double-stitched with strong zippers which helps it stand up well to wind, rain, and snow, something mentioned a lot by users of this tent.

Being made with a waterproof component woven into the cloth, this tent is going to withstand heavy rain and snow far better than canvas does, which is great for unexpected weather or all-year-round living with the family.

Another great feature of this tent is the small built-in eaves where the roof overhangs the walls allowing water to fall to the ground rather than run down the walls. This will give it another layer of waterproofing.

This wall tent is easy to put up and pull down – although the first time can be a bit tricky, but once you’ve done it once, it’s plain sailing after that! Despite it being lighter than some other canvas materials, it is very large and will need two people to set it up.

This tent has an uncut stove jack that you can trim to fit the stovepipe that you have. It has 4, 5 and 6 inch circles sewn into it as cutting guides and reinforcing so you can use any size stove that you want to.

For ventilation, there are four screened windows and two ceiling vents at the front and back that will keep the air flowing, suck away any smoke from the fire, and dry up condensation that could form at night with up to six sleeping people in the tent.

Overall this is a well-made wall tent with superior waterproofing and well worth the price if you plan to camp, hunt, or live in it for extended periods.

🏆 Best Budget Wall Tent

WHITEDUCK Alpha Canvas Wall Tent (4/8/12/14/18 Person)

A good-quality traditionally made canvas wall tent with all the features you need and comes with a floor and poles included in the price.

Pros

  • Comes as a complete package with everything included.
  • Excellent waterproofing and UV resistance
  • Super durable canvas.
  • Comes with a stove jack hole
  • Windows to help prevent condensation
  • Comes with a tent floor
  • Lots of sizes to choose from

Cons

  • May require two people for setup
  • Verty heavy tent
  • Needs a silicon stove jack

Also available in 8×10 ft, 10×12 ft, 12×14 ft, 14×16 ft, 16×20 ft, 16×24 ft.

The Whiteduck Alpha Canvas wall tent is a high-quality heavy duty canvas wall tent that is designed to keep you warm and dry in the worst types of weather.

It has windows with three storm layers, storm flaps for the doors, eaves to keep water pouring onto the walls, and a tough polythene floor to keep you dry in a storm. Sod flaps that extend a generous 8 inches will also help keep water away from the living area of the tent.

This is a four-season tent intended for long stays in all kinds of conditions. It has double-stitched seams, reinforced corners, military-grade YKK zippers, and heavy-duty canvas. Note well; it is a HEAVY tent and can take more than two people to move it around and to set it up – but that’s what you want in a tent designed to keep you safe all year round

The hole for the stove jack doesn’t come with a stove jack – the actual silicon sleeve that keeps the hot pipe away from the tent roof. Make sure you grab one before you need to install your tent stove.

The large double doors are great for summer ventilation or if you have a lot of people or gear moving in and out. The doors have built-in mesh for bug protection and a storm layer that buckles closed to keep you protected in bad weather.

Customer service is top-notch with a very helpful team responding to customer questions, queries, and issues.

Overall – a well-priced and robust wall tent with quality parts and customer service.

🏆 Lightest wall tent

OneTigris Tegimen Hammock 1-4 Person Hot Tent with Stove Jack

Best wall tent for backpackers and hammock sleepers it even has a choice of stove jack options to keep warm in the winter.

Pros

  • Very water proof
  • Lightest wall tent
  • Comes with a stove jack

Cons

  • Doesn’t come with poles
  • May require two people for setup
  • Doesnt come with a floor
  • No mesh doors
  • No windows

Perfect for a single hammock camper or two cot campers who want extra protection from the weather and a warm place to retire to in the winter. The OneTigris Tegimen Hammock Wall tent can also be set up with tent poles for a more traditional wall tent experience.

This tent is designed to be set up with a hammock and is also suspended from trees with ropes and has guy lines that hold the tent in position, it’s perfect for extra space and protection for you and your gear.

With a sod skirt to keep out the cold air and a stove jack to run a wood stove, it’s great for those who want to go hammock camping in Winter with room for all your supplies, a heat source, and all the advantages of sleeping off the rough, wet ground.

This tent does NOT come with tent poles so if you want to put it up as a traditional wall tent, you will need to make or purchase poles and an angle kit. You could make temporary poles with saplings, depending on whether or not you were camping in a National Park.

The tent has a 3000mm hydrostatic head rating making it very waterproof. You will need to make sure that there are no folds or dips that water can pool in nevertheless to stop water from ultimately seeping in. The zips are YKK brand and are high quality and waterproof.

This tent does not have a floor, making it lighter again for people walking a bit further into the bush for the night. It’s made from tough 70D nylon fabric which is light and can blow around a bit in the wind so make sure you stake it down properly.

Ventilation isn’t a problem in this tent as both ends open right up for summer camping but be warned, there are no windows or mesh in this tent so use a hammock that is insect-proofed in the Summer months.

Overall – a great tent for hammock sleepers who want a base camp with a wood stove and extra protection for gear that would normally be left outside in the weather.

Guide Gear 10x12' Canvas Wall Tent

Similar price as the others and you’ll still have to buy the frame or build one and there's no floor included either.

Pros

  • Heavy duty weather treatment
  • Four season tent
  • Comes with a stove jack
  • Peak vents

Cons

This Guide Gear 10×12’ canvas wall tent is made from traditional 10oz Cotton Canvas with heavy-duty weather treatment to make it a four-season tent to camp out in all weathers.

We hope the 12 people capacity is a typo. With a stove and cots inside, it seems more realistic that it will sleep three comfortably in cots or four to six in sleeping bags on the floor without the woodstove.

This tent does not come with a frame included but is available separately. The frame weighs 38lbs (17.2kgs) adding quite a bit of weight to an already heavy and bulky tent. The tent alone has a packed size of 32 x 15 x 14 in (81 x 38 x 36 cm) and weighs 53.3lbs.

The tent does have very generous 11.5 inch sod flaps around the base to help keep the damp from coming inside. The tent is sold floorless but a 12 x 10 ft 100% heavy-duty PVC floor can be purchased as an extra.

Keeping warm in winter is easy with a 5-inch stove jack included for you to put in a wood-burning stove if you desire. The combination of breathable canvas and front and rear peak vents will be enough to keep the inside of the tent condensation-free with the fire burning.

Interestingly, there is only a single meshed window with a rain flap on the back wall. There are no other windows. The door is mostly the front wall with a single canvas layer and no mesh door

This is quite a tall tent with an 8.3” or 251cm center height, so great if you are taller or want to use this as a glamping tent.

Overall – this is an ok tent for the price but once you have bought all the other accessories needed to put it up, it is better value to buy an all-inclusive package.

Happybuy Canvas Wall Tent for 6-8 People

Probably best to avoid for a number of reasons including quality, availability, and lots of reported issues.

Pros

  • Treated canvas shell
  • Clear roof panel for light
  • Comes with a stove jack
  • Meshed windows to help prevent condensation
  • Package includes zip in tent floor

Cons

  • Require two or more people for setup
  • Bad users reviews

Also available in 10 x 12 ft, 12 x 14 ft, and 14 x 16 ft sizes.

The Happybuy Canvas Wall Tent is made from 300gms double-stitched cotton canvas that has been treated with a waterproof coating making it a great four-season tent for those who want to camp outside all year round.

It’s got some great ventilation with 4 meshed windows on the side and a mesh door that keeps out bugs while letting the breeze come in. There are two ceiling vents that will draw air through them when the stove is lit, giving enough ventilation to dry up any condensation.

An added bonus is the clear PVC roof window that lets in even more light and allows you to see what the weather is doing from your bed!

This tent comes with a solid PVC floor that zips onto the tent walls giving you the option to have it attached or not depending on your camping circumstances.

It is a big and cumbersome tent to put up and will take two to three people to pitch the tent correctly. The poles are galvanized steel and the tent corners are reinforced.

Overall – this is a tent with potential for the backyard. We wouldn’t take it into the bush, particularly given the poor reviews of many users.

Our Rating Criteria for a Top Wall Tent

Best Wall tent overall

We look for a tent that combines comfort, weatherproofing, ventilation, durability, and does this at a great price. We like to see quality parts used, and all the parts included in the package.

The Elk Mountain wall tent does all that perfectly and is our top pick for wall tents in this lineup!

Most Comfortable Wall Tents

In this section, we are looking for space, ventilation in the summer, the ability to stay warm and dry in the winter, side pockets to store things, insulated from the ground by a floor, eaves, and awnings to keep your gear dry.

The Elk Mountain Wall Tent is the most comfortable wall tent that allows you the space and features to keep you comfortable all year round.

Best Wind & Waterproof Wall Tent for Rainy Days

It’s important that the tents you plan to spend a lot of time in are able to stand up to all kinds of bad weather. We are looking for strong poles, robust guylines and stakes, waterproofing, UV protection, and the ability to zip up windows and doors so the rain and wind don’t get in.

The Elk Mountain Wall Tent is the most waterproof tent and gets our award for the wall tent we want to be in all year round!

Most Ventilated Wall Tent for Warm Summer Days

When you are stuck inside your wall tent because of rain, condensation can build up. Ventilation is a concern for those who know they will be inside a lot. Wall tents with mesh windows, ceiling vents, and mesh doors make life inside a breeze.

We like the ventilation features of the White Duck Wall Tent and think it’s the one that will keep you warm and dry, summer or winter.

Durable Wall Tents That Will Last For Decades

Durability is directly linked to quality. For this criteria, we are looking for parts that don’t break and are made of metal. Double stitching, reinforcing, galvanized poles, angle kits, silicon stove vents, extra waterproofing, and heavy-duty fabric are all part of making a tent able to withstand what nature will throw at it.

The Elk Mountain Wall Tent has all this and we think it will last you years, if not decades with its unique waterproof poly canvas fabric

Best Value for Money

We are looking for a tent that has it all for a reasonable price. Many of these tents cut costs by not including poles, forcing you to spend either time or more money to get your tent set up.

The White Duck Wall Tent is our tent choice in the value for money section as the price includes everything you need to set it up and move in.

Which wall tent is best for hunting?

We are choosing the Elk Mountain Wall Tent as it’s the lightest and easiest hunting tent to put up and has a lot of space inside. The poly canvas will keep you dry, no matter the weather outside when you are elk hunting.

An Empty Wall tent set up in a field at sunset.
Wall tents can be used as all-year-round retreats, glamping tents, or long family holidays. Perfect for people who need more room.

Top 4 season wall tent for winter

A wall tent with a floor and a stove jack is going to keep you warm in winter, but in the summer you’ll need something with ventilation and bug protection. The Elk Mountain Wall Tent does both of these things very well and is our favorite for all-year-round campers!

Related: We also like canvas bell tents for winter camping, as their domed upper shape helps snow slide off.

Best budget wall tent – including the frame!

If you need something on a more occasional basis rather than all year round, the White Duck Wall Tent will fit the bill admirably with its good solid features but a budget-friendly price tag and it comes with everything you need to set it up immediately.

Which of these Wall tents comes with a stove jack?

A stove jack is a must for tents that you want to have a wood-burning stove inside. In winter you want to be able to cook inside as well as stay warm all night. A wood-burning stove is the way to go when you’re camping off-grid.

Do these make good outfitter tents?

Yes! An outfitter tent is simply a four vertical walled tent with plenty of headroom when standing up. These tents are sometimes known as safari, wall, and sheepherder tents as well.

How many people can these wall tents hold?

The manufacturers usually answer this question with how many people can lie down in a sleeping bag on the floor without gear. We think some of them are reasonably ambitious so bigger is usually better when it comes to wall tents.
